Cheryl Cole and Ashley Cole's Surrey mansion was targeted by thieves reportedly looking for Cheryl's £310,000 worth of wedding rings.

Singer Cheryl Cole's £310,000 worth of wedding rings were thought to be the target of burglars, who attempted to break into her and her footballer husband Ashley Cole's Surrey home

Ashley was asleep upstairs when he heard someone trying to force open the downstairs windows of the couple's £4 million Surrey mansion at 4.30am yesterday.

Ashley, who is nursing an injured ankle, made a panicked phone call to police, telling them: “Please come quick. Someone’s trying to break in.”

Police arrived shortly after the call, but the intruders had already fled. Forensic experts were searching the mansion for clues yesterday.

Cheryl flew to LA on Wednesday without her expensive sparklers following newspaper allegations linking husband Ashley to other women.

When she left for LAX airport, Cheryl was pictured wearing a gold-coloured ****tail ring instead.

The singer, who dined out with record bosses at Katsuya in LA last night, has asked to be given some time alone during her promotional trip to the US.

The 26-year-old pop star is staying at a £1,000-a-night bungalow at the Chateau Marmont hotel, where she told staff: “I just want to be left alone.”

A source said: “She was tired after the flight. She just wanted to sleep and have time by herself. It’s been a hard few days."
