Chapter One
Felix was in his bedroom with his huge Bergen, he’d already half filled it with spare clothes, spare batteries for his torch, and other things he thought he might need. He just needed to get downstairs into the kitchen to pack enough food to last him at least a week. His mum had already told him that he wasn’t going, but he was adamant that he was going.
He carried his Bergen downstairs and into the kitchen, he got some plastic bags and started to fill them with dry food and most importantly, water. With everything ready, all he needed to do was make sure he could carry it, it must of weighed at least 30 lbs. He fumbled around in his pockets for his cell phone to ring his best friend, Jack, just to make sure that he was allowed and ready to go. Jack would meet up with Louis and Joe. Jack was allowed to go, but he was just finishing off his packing. Jack agreed to ring Louis and Joe before Felix got there.
Jack had just got off the phone with Joe; he wouldn’t be coming for some reason. He wouldn’t tell anybody why. So it would only be Louis, Jack and Felix going backpacking.
Back to Felix’s house, he was arguing with his mother, once again, she shouted
“What are you doing that for?! I’ve already told you you’re not going into the blooming forest with your stupid friends for a week!”
He angrily replied saying “I’m doing it because I want to because I’m going to have some fun with my friends, which I hardly ever get to do! Why can’t you just leave me alone and let me do what I want with my life? You have to try and control everything I do don’t you? Why do you continuously try to ruin my life? Just leave me alone! I hate you!
Felix then stormed out of the kitchen, out through the living room and slammed the front door and he walked out of it. He walked down the street in the direction of Jack’s house. As usual, the street was packed with people washing their cars, mowing the lawn, planting trees, the children were playing, all sorts of things like that, as he walked past, most people shouted to him
“Hey Cat, how are ya?”
He would reply with the same old
“Life doesn’t change.”
The closer Felix got to Jack’s house, the darker the skies got. He suddenly realised that this could go all wrong. He said to himself,
“Oh well, I’m not going home to spend a week of doing nothing with my mom”
He made sure he had all of his spare batteries, including the ones for his cell phone. He did. He made one final dash for Jack’s front door; he made a quick but low pitched knock on the glass of the door. He must have waited for at least 2 minutes, but he heard no movement, nor had he seen any. He dashed round to the side of the house, and made yet another, quick and low pitched knock on the door. Once again, nobody came. He tried the door handle. It was open. He quietly opened the door, but once he was inside, he shouted Jack’s name a few times, eventually he called down and told him to come upstairs.
Felix quickly started to dart up the stairs, but as he jumped up the first few steps, he noticed two pictures that weren’t there before, they were pictures of ‘The Big Apple’ and one of the Twin Towers before they got destroyed in 9/11.
Felix knew exactly where he was going, straight up the stairs, second door on the left. He peeked round just to make sure that Jack was still in his room, he was. He saw Felix peeking round and made it look like he made him jump. He was just packing the last of his things that he would need.
When Jack had finished packing, they both ran back down the two sets of stairs, and back onto the street, grinning widely.
Chapter Two
Jack and Felix half walked, half ran to the end of the street, where Louis was already waiting for them, which was kind of unusual for him, he was usually always late for things like this. As they got closer, Louis shouted
“Hey Lads! Ready for this?”
He knew that they were both ready from their huge grins on their faces.
Now, they needed to go and get Joe. All three of them started to walk in the direction of the next block, where Joe lived. They eventually saw his mom’s car driving up the road, and signalled her to stop. Joe was ready to go in the car; he was going to get dropped off at Felix’s house. He got out, and they all walked back the way they had come, and then towards the forest.
They eventually got to the beginning of the forest, they all looked at each other, and all three of them simultaneously grinned one after the other with excitement.
They walked one after the other into the forest, making sure that they were all there by shouting each others names occasionally; they didn’t want to get lost. They eventually found a decent clearing in the forest, about 1 mile in.
They all started to unpack their tents, their sleeping bags and the portable stove and mess tins they’d brought. They made boil in the bag curry and rice, since nobody could be bothered to cook anything.
Felix then decided that he would go for a wander and look for some firewood, so they could stay up for a while after dark, and keep insects and bugs away from them during the night.
He must’ve been gone for at least an hour, Louis was asleep already, but he made the fire and woke him up anyway, he needed to stay awake till quite late, so he wasn’t up early, and didn’t waste most of his energy.
They all woke at around 7am, which was good since they went to bed at about midnight, now they needed something which would give them slow energy release so they could keep on going until about 2pm, which they would then stop for lunch.
On their journey so far, they’d already seen a grass snake and a scorpion, so they needed to be extra careful not to stand on them, or they might get attacked by a huge swarm of them.
Felix had already nearly fallen down a huge hole, which must’ve been used when they used to mine here, around 500 years ago. He wasn’t exactly sure what they mined for, but he paid attention in his History lessons, which wasn’t like him, he never paid attention in his lessons. He knew it was from the mining, because He’d seen a mine shaft somewhere, he couldn’t remember where.
Louis had then had the idea of attaching each other together with a rope which he’d brought along just in case they need it. Which they did. Joe and Felix were thankful that one of them was using their brain properly, or he could’ve fallen into it and been trapped.
Felix started to think about what he’d being saying to his mom for the past few weeks, he’d wished that he hadn’t told her that he hated her before he left, he really wanted to apologise, but he was going to trek all the way back, just to get shouted at again. He didn’t want that.
Felix tried to start thinking about the 6 more days left ahead of him, he asked Louis and Joe what they wanted to do, and they just told him that they wanted to anything that they could in the forest.
Joe was trying to make conversation with the other two, but they didn’t seem to want to talk to him, or anybody else. They were probably just concentrating on having as much fun as possible. Nobody knew.
